Final Video

We're completely done with our documentary film project, which will be presented on the 4th day of February, Wednesday.

Jonathan published and burned the video. Mariv created and designed the DVD cover using Nero. Daren is working on our final script. Hopefully, we can present our docufilm well.

Voice Overs

Our group went at the apartment of our Technical Specialist, Jonathan, for the post-editing of the video. We fixed the background music and the voice overs. Unfortunately, voice overs are not that clear enough to be heard because of the loud background music. We thought not to include background music in our voice overs anymore. But it's kind of boring without music, so we will just try to fix the audio matters later.

Video

Our group will not be interviewing the Department of Energy anymore because of schedule conflicts. Therefore, we are already finished with the expert interviews/shooting. What we need to do now is to deal on our video for the documentary film. Jonathan, our technical specialist, has already started making a video wherein he compiled all of the videos, animations and pictures we had collected. He used different softwares in editing the pictures and videos. We will just completely edit the whole video after the Preliminary examinations.

Another thing that we have to deal on is with the audio matters. We need to have the voice overs for video editing. We already talked about it and we will be doing it right after the Preliminary examinations. As soon as the voice overs are finish, we will be editing our video using our preferred video editing software. Hopefully, we can finish the video editing on the weekend before the week of deadline.

KEPHILCO

We resume our video shooting and expert interview this day of the month, since all of the power plants were closed last Christmas vacation. After classes, we went straight to Kepco Philippines Corporation (KEPHILCO) Malaya Thermal Plant at Pililla, Rizal. We just planned to pass the letter of request for the interview, but since we have gone so far to go there, we also tried to take our chances to have the interview with them afterwards.

We were accompanied by Mariv's brother again and the one with an access at KEPHILCO who Mariv had a contact with last time we went there, Dr. Paz. Arriving at the power plant at around 4 in the afternoon, we inquired at the guard house and asked if we could have the interview immediately. But then again, we failed to do so. The employees in the power plant are already leaving as we arrived. We should have gone there earlier. And again, we were not allowed to take video shots in and outside the power plant. Daren only took stolen video shots outside the power plant, so that at least, we can have something to add on our video. Since the employees are already leaving, they asked us to reset the schedule for the interview and go there as earlier as we can.

However, we are planning not to continue the interview and shooting in a power plant since they are very strict in allowing us to take even a shot or two of their location. We are just waiting for the Department of Energy (DOE) for the rescheduling of the expert interview. Hopefully, they will answer everything that we had prepared for them to finish our video shooting immediately.

DOST Interview

After classes, Daren and Jonathan went to the Department of Science and Technology at Bicutan, Taguig for the expert interview on Renewable Energy. Mariv was not able to go with the group for he attended an outreach program for their ROTC.

Arriving at DOST, we went directly to Philippine Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development and looked for our contact person, Engr. Joanna Cecilia Catubig, an agricultural engineer. Daren was the one who asked the questions and Jonathan was the one who took a video shoot of the expert interview. Ms. JC Catubig also asked for an expert in their department to answer some questions regarding our topic. He was Mr. Ryan Christopher Viado, a BS Geography graduate. It took almost 30 minutes to conduct the expert interview. The interview went very well, for the experts answered the questions significantly. It was really a great time having an interview with the experts at DOST.

Trip to Caliraya

This was the busiest day we had so far in relation to our documentary film project. This was our first ever video shooting for this project. The time has finally come for us to conduct an interview at Caliraya Hydroelectric Power Plant. We were accompanied by Mariv's brother and his cousin. We pass through some towns of Rizal and Laguna, took pictures, and shot videos.

We stopped by as we saw a hydroelectric power plant thinking that it was the Caliraya Hydroelectric Power Plant. We presented to them our letter of request for the expert interview. But they said that we were not allowed to conduct an interview without a contact person. And addition to that, office hours is only from Monday to Friday. We asked if we could take pictures and videos but it was also not allowed unless approved by a higher authority. But this hydropower plant was not what we thought it was. That was actually the Kalayaan Pump Storage Power Plant in Kalayaan, Laguna.

Since we are already in a hydroelectric power plant, we approached the people there if we could have someone with knowledge about the power plant to have an interview with and take a video of him/her. But there was none. They just gave us a contact person with a great knowledge in this renewable energy. And then, they advised us to go at Caliraya Hydroelectric Power Plant, which is originally included in our shot list. We went there and found out that the office is closed since it's a saturday. We just stopped by the Caliraya Lake and took pictures and videos that can help us in the film production.

Mariv's brother suggested a power plant that we could go to for an interview. It was Kephilco Malaya Power Plant. We went straight to Pililla, Rizal and inquired at the said plant. Just like what the others have said: taking pictures and videos is not allowed, and office is only open from monday to friday. They also gave us a person concern for the environmental matters in this plant and she's Mrs. Fely Leon. We thought that this company would be a great help in our project so we decided to pass all the requirements needed for the interview and video shooting anytime soon.

After all of this, we decided to call it a day and go home. It was such a wrong timing. We should go on all of these places from monday to friday. But it was quite worth it, because we enjoyed our trip to Caliraya. Maybe on Christmas vacation, we could have our trip to it again. But by that time, we can conduct the interview and video shooting already.

Later that night, Mariv said that there's a big chance that we could have an interview and shooting in the Kephilco Malaya Power Plant, for he just had made a contact with a person who has an access in that power plant. Hopefully, this could help us have our expert interview and video shooting in a hydroelectric power plant as soon as possible.

Submission of DocuFilm Tools

Today is the deadline for the submission of Outline, Time Table, and this Blog site in e-Leap. Mariv and Daren successfully downloaded the time table and outline, respectively. Jonathan was the one tasked to submit this blog site. But since the discussion board in e-Leap is not working, Ma'am Ramos decided to move the submission until the discussion board works.

Weekend

As our group had planned, each member is now working on the things we are assigned to finish. Daren is finalizing the draft script. Mariv is also finalizing the time table to be uploaded on e-LeAP. He is also formulating important and relevant questions that will be asked for the expert interview on the 13th. Jonathan is searching for some related pictures and video animations, as well as the musical scoring and sound effects that are appropriate for the topic.

Shot list

We had our meeting at Mariv's dorm. Due to his PE class, Jonathan attended the said meeting for only few minutes. In his absence as the documentation officer, the other members were the ones who tried to contact all of the places included in our shot list. They have successfully communicated with the person-in-charge of the Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST). We will just send the letter of request for the expert interview through fax machine.

Time Table

Our group leader downloaded in e-LeAP all of the tools needed for the documentation film. First of all, information on the time table was completed. We estimated the time needed for each activity before, during, and after the film production. Each of the required concepts given by our Professor was analyzed by us. The outline and research are being finalized and the draft script is being done by our script writer.

Our shot list includes Caliraya in Lumban, Laguna and Department of Environment and Natural Resources. We, then, searched for the contact numbers of these places we are about to have shooting on.

Suppose to be, we will be having our shooting/interview on December 6, 2008, but we still haven't sent the letter of request for the expert interview. Another problem is that we still have no video camera for the shooting. Hopefully, Daren, our script writer, would be able to borrow one from his cousin. With all this, the shooting/interview was moved on the next saturday, December 13, 2008.

We also talked about the media elements - the sounds, pictures, videos and animation suitable for the production of the film. Searching for such things will be done by our technical specialist/documentation officer.

Planning Stage

Our group planned on the whole documentation film thing. Distribution of works to each member was done. We planned on researching useful information about our topic as we were almost done with our topic outline. But our group leader successfully finished this researching so he just asked us to search for related videos and pictures, which can help us in the film production.

We also planned on when we will have an expert interview on our shooting place - Caliraya Hydroelectric Power Plant. This is, so far, the only place we planned to have a shooting on. We're still searching for some appropriate authority to obtain useful information. As agreed upon, we will have our shooting on December 6, 2008 at Caliraya. Since none of us have video camera at home, we have decided to use our digital cameras instead for the film production. But we still find ways to have a video camera with us and hopefully, we could have one as soon as possible.

Outline

Our group started making a topic outline based on our Environmental Science book, as said by Ms. Ramos. We were asked to follow the "Path to Sustainability" in our outline. This includes Natural Capital, Natural Capital Degradation, Solutions, Trade-Offs, and Individual Matters.

Documentary Film Project

Our professor, Ms. Ramos explained to the class the project which is the documentary film in relation to different environmental science topics. She grouped the class into ten and our group consisted of Geminiano Corong, Daren Manuel, and Jonathan Barcena. The topic given to us was the Renewable Energy. The assignment of members was also done, wherein each member was assigned a specific position to do a certain task. Mariv is the group leader and the creative director, Daren is the scriptwriter and Jonathan is the documentation officer and the technical specialist.
